Inspired by some of the finest sex toys designers in the world, and by chance of a lucky conversation I had with an old co-worker at Females Pleasure, I found myself involved in quite an unusual project, which involved working with a world-leading brand to design the best female vibrators for women. Little did I realise that it was a project that would completely change my life and take me to many places around the world.
Although graphic design and visual arts began as a passion of mine, it grew fondly over the years into a unique and unusual passion and curiosity for working with industrial design manufacturers to produce designer lifestyle products. I’ve always admired Scandinavian style design, and it was a pleasure to be working with such a company.
It was an unusual project to say the least. Here I was after all these years of graphics experience, formulating ideas of how the best vibrator in the world should look like. But it was a project that I set about with great enthusiasm and curiosity.
Infused with my artistic creativity and in-depth understanding of design, I teamed up with an international renowned sex toy industrial designer to create the most amazing sex toy available. His knowledge of the product at hand left me wondering how he got started in such an industry. His explanation was simple; “I design pleasure of the highest form.”
Although industrial and engineering design were areas where I lacked vast knowledge, working closely with the designers of this background allowed me to quickly pick up and understand many of the core principles and applications of designing such products.
Soon enough, I was able to understand the engineering and industrial design components well enough to put the methodologies into creative practice. 12 months later, and with extra design qualifications to my name, I had a complete turn around in my graphic design focus and evolved into this new area of design.
When I am designing, I’m inspired by shapes, colour, texture and most importantly practicality. Each toy’s design needs to meet unique requirements, and my design focuses on how each toy can flatter a woman’s form to provide maximum pleasure and enjoyment.
It’s also very crucial to design a sex toy that has a sense of fashion or style to it, which helps to eliminate a lot of the stigma that is associated with women owning a sex toy or vibrator. The objective is to make the end result fun and acceptable to own. Taking a mainstream approach, and designing non-offensive looking toys is the real knack.
Overall, my design work epitomizes glamor and functionality, yet it captures the heart of femininity with an innate sense of style and harmony. I have made it my passion to design sex toys that have a modern aesthetic look but are also beautiful to feel and interlaced with a sense of luxury.
Products such as Lelo vibrators have a real ethereal quality, which definitely appeals to a very discerning clientele. I strongly believe that such self-expression through sexuality should be equally expressed through beauty in an object. And that is why I do what I do.
